RIbuilder, Reprointelligence’s innovative PDF object transformation system, is designed to streamline the optimization process for professional print output.
Many PDF files received from end-customers or agencies often fall short of print production standards. These files may contain mixed content, images with varying color models and spaces, and other elements that make them unsuitable for direct processing. This results in unpredictable and often substantial workloads in the prepress department, leading to reduced margins for print service providers. The use of expensive, complex prepress tools, coupled with vendor lock-ins, intensifies these challenges. Time delays, production setbacks, and extensive communication with PDF providers are common issues faced by printing companies. Despite industry efforts to establish standards like PDF/X, agencies and media designers often lack understanding of these technical guidelines, resulting in incorrect PDF exports. Additionally, the rise of AI-based design tools further complicates these matters, as they commonly disregard printing standards, producing visually appealing designs that fail to translate effectively for print.
Native PDF PDL/GL Processing
To address these issues, Reprointelligence developed RIbuilder, a system that automatically optimizes PDFs from diverse sources, reducing the need for separate preflight and conversion tools drastically. RIbuilder interprets PDFs at a deep language level, reconstructing objects to meet printing requirements without altering visual appearance. It integrates RIcolor, a leading color management engine, to ensure professional-level color management for images and vector data. RIbuilder’s advanced capabilities enable it to interpret and process PDF vector objects, images, fonts, shaders, and overprint combinations, ensuring intelligent reconstruction. The output PDFs retain all meta-data, invisible objects, and information embedded in the original file, making them suitable for various output requirements. RIbuilder works entirely in native PDF language, no intermediate conversion to legacy PostScript code is applied at any stage in the process. This makes RIbuilder a modern and very powerful alternative to existing PDF workflows, allowing for professional PDF document processing, without introducing backward incompatibilities with the upstream files.
Implementing the PDF language and its extensive specification was a significant challenge. After years of development, RIbuilder Version 2 aims to tackle some of the industry’s most pressing pain points. Built upon in-house developments, RIbuilder leverages the expertise of seasoned engineers with decades of industry experience in PDF and color management. This level of control over the PDF-conversion engine allows Reprointelligence to transform PDF files from any source into print-ready PDF data, considering all print production necessities.
Industry leading Spot Color Control and Simulation
RIbuilder also supports currently world most modern spot-color control. Spot colors within PDF-documents can without external tools optimized for targeted output conditions and precisely adjusted for proofing, and CMYK reductions. The optional CCAI-integration allows to address about 20% more distinguishable colors within standard CMYK, making CMYK a valid competitor to most expanded gamut printing applications without the huge extra effort EXG printing
